Horse Trials
Horse Trials or Eventing is a combination of Cross Country, Show Jumping and Dressage. Eventing is often known as the Triathlon of the equestrian world.
A truly complete sport that tests both the horse and rider in all aspects of horsemanship, and one of the 3 Olympic disciplines.
In 1955 the first inter-branch competition was held by Mornington Peninsula Pony Club. The horse trials state championships was in the past conducted annually by one of the 10 zones in Pony Club Victoria, for qualified Grade 1 & Grade 2 and Grade 3 combinations of horse and rider. The championships shall be held on the weekend containing the first Sunday in May or as directed by State Council.
In 1977, the state championships rotation began with North Eastern Zone conducting followed by the following Zones: Northern Metropolitan, Midland, West Gippsland, Wannon, Southern Metropolitan, Northern, Central, East Gippsland and Barwon. From 2016 State Championships will be conducted by a state sub-committee appointed by PCV as per Bylaws. From 2021 the State Championships will be hosted by Zones. From 2022 the State Championships will include the InterZones Teams Horse Trials and be hosted by Zones.
