A PIECE OF MISS KAY HISTORY FOR PONY CLUB

MISS KAY AND JOLLY GOOD ORIGINAL DONATED TO PONY CLUB VICTORIA FOR ALL MEMBERS TO APPRECIATE

Pony Club Victoria is privileged to receive an original painting/drawing of Miss Kay Irving on her magnificent horse ‘Jolly Good,’ kindly donated by her close friend Moira Knotts. It will be displayed at the Pony Club Victoria State Office ‘Irving House’ for all members to view and cherish the legacy of Kay.

In Moira’s words;

Miss Kay kindly presented this painting/drawing to me after the death of her sister Pippa for caring and nursing Pippa for the last three months of her precious life.  This gift was not prearranged, in fact I was shocked, however she was insistent that I accept this; and as anyone who knew Kay knew well, that when Kay insisted there was no resistance or person who could deny her wishes – she was absolutely dynamic.

Several years later Kay died at Lilydale Hospital. I was with her during her passing and felt this was the saddest day I had ever experienced.  Kay was a great mentor and friend.  I lost my mother early and subsequently Kay guided me through life; teaching me moral and ethical values.  I personally owe her, probably like so many others, the value of life for all creatures and humans alike, regardless of their capacity.  She also taught me wisdom, humour, and never to judge people, as we are all flawed.  She also taught me the value of all creatures on this earth, especially horses – what a gift.

Kay is a great loss to humanity and the Pony Club; and legends like Kay should never be taken away from this earth, as they are instrumental in teaching untold knowledge that few are ever gifted with.  Not only was she ethical and compassionate, she had a wicked sense of humour.  Unknown to most she had a great sense of fun and humour.  I can still see that wicked look in her eyes, which enticed men of all; ages professions and wealth to follow her directions without question.

As a birthday gift, I was allowed to ride the precious Jolly Good; and did so with pride and gratitude.  Jolly Good, was an absolute pleasure to ride, and I have never forgotten the experience.  Coupled with the lessons from Miss Kay herself; a legend in the Pony Club world.

As I am coming to my final years of my life it is time to allow others to experience the vision of Kay.  I now with pleasure pass on this painting/drawing of Miss Kay & Jolly Good for display to all members of The Victorian Pony Club – enjoy.

Miss Kay’s painting/drawing has found pride of place at the Mulgrave State Office.  It has already been marvelled by the Zone Chief Instructors at their meeting last week held at Mulgrave.  A wonderful talking point and something to admire and be inspired by.

On receiving the gifted painting/drawing, Pony Club Victoria noted its inscribed with the following: In Appreciation of your time & effort spent with the Pony Club Members of Victoria.  Presented from Northern Metro Zone Junior Committee 1982 1983.

Pony Club Victoria would like to thank Moira Knotts for her generous gift of which all our members will be able to cherish and enjoy forever more.

Gifted on 6th May 2024.
