Body Protectors...
As you are all aware, the Pony Club Australia (PCA) Gear Rules superseded the Pony Club Victoria (PCV) Gear Rules as of 1 July 2022.
PCV has been fielding some questions regarding Rule 1.04 Body Protectors.
Please refer to the Rule on page 11 of the PCA Gear Rules which can be found at https://ponyclubaustralia.com.au/sports/national-gear-rules/.
You will notice the rule refers to two standards:
- BETA Level 3 standard
- EN13158: 2018
If your body protector is a EN13158:2009 Level 3, it does not meet the current requirements of the rule, but you can apply for a Gear Rule Exemption. Please apply for an exemption at https://www.jotform.com/form/211177535758867.
If your Body Protector is a BETA Level 3, it meets the current rule.
BETA recommends that “body protectors should be replaced at least every three to five years, after which the impact absorption properties of the foam may have started to decline… BETA 2000 Level 3 will no longer be effective and should be replaced. You should be wearing a garment bearing the current BETA 2009 or 2018 Standard” (www.beta-uk.org).
If you have a BETA Level 3 standard body protector, PCV highly recommends you use a BETA 2009 Level 3 or a BETA 2018 Level 3.
