CERTIFICATES

RIDER CERTIFICATE PATHWAY

The Pony Club Australia certificate pathway provides pony club members with a broad educational experience where learning is structured around the following topics:

  • Equitation Science (groundwork)
  • Horse Care
  • Under Saddle

The chart below lists each certificate, who can assess the rider and who should record the result in the PCA database.  Riders must work through each level in order but of note, the E certificate is aimed at the very beginner rider and can be bypassed should a rider join pony club and be at the D standard already.

The pathway is delivered to riders through their pony club.  Rally day lessons are coordinated around the PCA syllabus of Instruction.

ZONE ASSESSMENTS

Rider certificates are assessed at zone level for the C/C*/K/Pre-B & B levels.  Each zone will offer a selection of dates throughout the year.  Clubs and riders should check their zone website or contact their Zone Examining Secretary (ZES) if they require further information.

The process to book a C assessment is as follows:

  • Club completes Zone Application Form (6-8 weeks prior to assessment day) and processes required zone fees.
  • Zone Examining Secretary will confirm assessment date and venue as well as forwarding candidate the PCA Open Book Test.
  • Rider attends assessment day.

C*/K/Pre-B/B candidates will submit their journals and projects/worksheets (if required) at time of application.  Contact your ZES to discuss requirements further.

Riders can seek permission to sit a practical assessment day in a neighbouring zone. However, they will be required to inform their own Zone Examining Secretary who will arrange the necessary paperwork and marking of any test, journal or worksheets and coordinate the process with the visiting zone.

STATE ASSESSMENTS

The Pre-A and ‘A’ certificate assessment are conducted at State Level.  Pony Club Victoria will arrange a suitable venue and book the State Assessors. Candidates may be required to attend over two full days. Candidates may be required to travel outside of their zone for this assessment but every effort will be made to keep travel to a minimum.

Booking form can be accessed here - coming soon

The costs are as follows:

Pre-A assessment $100

‘A’ Assessment $120
