PONY CLUB AUSTRALIA NATIONAL COACH ACCREDITATION SCHEME (PCA NCAS)

Pony Club Australia, National Coach Accreditation Scheme (PCA NCAS) is Pony Club's national approach to developing and improving the coaching within Pony Club. The program provides a framework to evaluate the knowledge and teaching ability of the coach. The PCA NCAS is a nationally recognised coaching qualification and is valid across Australia.  Great coaching is essential to a quality Pony Club experience; we aim to have coaches constantly seeking new ways to impart knowledge and inspire our riders to experience all forms of horse sports. 

Three levels of accreditation currently exist in the PCA National Coach Accreditation Scheme.

PCA NCAS PRELIMINARY

Aimed at beginner coaches.  These coaches will teach basic riding skills and horsemastership knowledge to D/D* level certificate riders.  The core focus is on group management and safety.  Lessons should be provided with a ‘fun’ approach to skill development for the rider and progressive and consistent training of the horse both under saddle and during groundwork.   

PRE-REQUISITES

  • Minimum age to register for course is 16 years of age, however a coach cannot attend an assessment until 18 years of age.

PCA NCAS LEVEL 1

Aimed at experienced coaches to aid in teaching more advanced riding skills and horsecare knowledge (up to "C certificate standard), concentrates on demonstrating advanced knowledge and skill in group management and teaching riders horse management and riding skills. 

Pre-Requisites: 

  • Successful attainment of PCA NCAS Preliminary Accreditation Minimum 18 years 
  • A financial member of a Pony Club, affiliated through their State Association, with Pony Club Australia 

PCA NCAS LEVEL 1 - GAMES SPECIALIST 

Aimed at experienced coaches to aid in teaching advanced games riding skills.Concentrates on demonstrating advanced knowledge and skill in group management and teaching riders games riding skills and athlete preparation. 

Pre-Requisites: 

  • Successful attainment of PCA NCAS Preliminary Accreditation Minimum 18 years 
  • A financial member of a Pony Club, affiliated through their State Association, with Pony Club Australia

PCA Preliminary Course

The Preliminary course is now updated and now aligns with the PCA syllabus of Instruction (rider certificates).  The course is for coaches who are teaching riders at D/D* level.  The course manual provides coaches with over 150 pages of resource material. The process to order is as follows:

  1. Log into your Myponyclub profile using your member ID number. 
  2. Search the 'member store' and purchase the coach manual from the 'PCA' store. The cost of this manual is $48. The manual will be posted to your home. 
  3. Search the 'member store' and purchase your training and assessment package from the 'Victorian' store.  The cost is $100.  This allows coaches to attend as many of the State-run coach development days and assessment days as they like, until accreditation obtained.  
  4. The Preliminary worksheets will be emailed by PCV coaching director and can be either printed and filled or completed online as the document is a fillable.  

 

PCA Level 1 Course

The Pony Club Australia Level 1 course is for coaches who have already gained the Preliminary level accreditation.  This course is aimed towards coaches who are teaching riders of C/C* level.   

Regional coaches currently have the opportunity to join this course with part of their costs subsidised with thanks to Sport and Recreation Victoria.  If you live in regional Victoria or teach in regional Victoria, then now is a great time to get qualified (limited places on offer).  Follow the process below to join the course.  

  1. Log into your Myponyclub profile using your member ID number.
  2. Search the 'member store' and choose the 'Victorian' store from drop down menu.
  3. Select PCA Level 1 training and assessment package.  
  4. Choose your option - Regional ($180) or Metro ($130) coach.
  5. PCV will post your coaching resource and workbook manuals.
